I slowly walked through the aisles of the Warehouse store looking for cheap snacks. It was going to be a long night of paper writing and I needed some motivation! As I rounded a corner of the next aisle, my eyes lit up as I discovered a clearance rack, and on it, bubbles. I wasted no time making up my mind, and quickly purchased my few items and returned to dorm in a thrilled whirlwind. I walked into dorm and put my snacks away previously quickly rounding up all the weary ladies who were also working on the continuous list of projects. We each grabbed a bottle of clearance rack bubbles and ran out into the field in laughter.
I was the designated photographer and only managed to shoot goofy, blurry photos as we danced around the field blowing bubbles and "blessing" any innocent person who happened to pass our way! After a good dose of laughter, and a multitude of terrible photos were taken, we headed back to dorm with intense eyes, sticky fingers, and a new-found energy to take on the mountain of research that still awaited all of us! Oh the pleasures of dormitory! This memory, in addition to lots of others, hold an unique location in my heart. Amongst the memories that will last a lifetime, there are other benefits. Here are five benefits of residence living that I have found to be real throughout my time studying at SBC!
1. Character Structure Residing in neighborhood develops character! Despite your personality or age, being put in a living situation with about forty others your age will stretch you. Living in residence provides a safe environment where you can find out to live "by yourself" and start to explore what life without your instant household close by appear like.
In addition to this, dorm is a great place to learn how to agree individuals with differing characters. This also offers opportunities to have meaningful conversations with individuals who hold various viewpoints than what you have actually always had. This is one of the big areas where I have had the ability to grow.
Roomies are another location in which character is constructed. Whether you get along actually well with your roomie, or don't have much in common, being "stuck" in the same room all year permits for deep relationships to be developed in addition to character as you discover how to live in close proximity with another individual. It's not all enjoyable and video games, but even through difficult conversations, character is built as you grow and experience a various life setting while finding out how to reside in community with others.
2. We're all in the same boat! One of the benefits of residing in house is being surrounded by individuals who are experiencing the exact same things as you. While this may seem apparent, having the ability to associate with each other through shared experiences, whether it be spontaneous trips to Don's (McDonald's) or late-night homework stresses, triggers relationships to blossom and brings the community together. In addition to being able to share in the pleasures and disappointments of school associated work/play, we are able to relate to each other in our life situations.
We each have special pasts and futures, however here in dorm our stories overlap as we each individually choose to spend a year (or 2 or 3 or four) deepening our understanding of Scripture and drawing closer to our Savior. This offers us a typical goal regardless of our specific stories and offers us the chance not only to see ourselves grow in that, however also the joy of seeing others grow as all of us advance our journey with Christ. 3. Social Life
This is perhaps the most obvious advantage of living in home, but also among the very best parts of community life. Who doesn't enjoy having a terrific social life? Dorm allows for consistent relationship with individuals, in addition to with the school community as a whole due to its close distance to the primary building. There are always individuals who wish to go for a random adventure, or somebody needing to get homework done who would like a pal to deal with, or someone looking for food however desiring a buddy to come along. Whatever activity you are wanting/needing to do, there is most likely another person in the exact same situation who is willing to do it with you! Through lots of Don's runs, homework parties, motion picture nights, sports video games, and numerous other things, life-long relationships are developed and so many terrific memories are made! 4. Prayer
Prayer is powerful! Many, sometimes throughout my previous two years residing in dormitory, I've discovered myself in a location of discouragement or worry due to life scenarios and stresses. It was during these times that I was blessed continually by the numerous friends who pulled me aside in the corridors, in the lounge, and even in my room to simply pray with and for me. I have also had lots of Amber Park Showflat opportunities to do the same for others in dormitory. This gift of praying for and with one another daily is something that I know has been a terrific blessing to me and I trust has likewise impacted many others who have actually lived in house.5. Spiritual Accountability
Last but most definitely not least, a big benefit of house life is spiritual accountability. Prayer overlaps with this point as it is a huge part of holding each other responsible. Whether it is keeping each other accountable with prayer life, devotions, or research, dorm allows for responsibility to take place in a safe and caring environment.
One example of this is weekly prayer conferences that were held in both males's and ladies's dorms and in the school. They were just a time and place to hope for whatever needs it. Having people to hold you liable in your spiritual walk is useful not just in your individual walk with Christ, but likewise in building deep relationships as you stroll together with each other in this season of life.
